Best ways to cleanse the lungs

Method 1: Steam therapy

Steam therapy or steam inhalation is one of the best options to get relief from the cough and cold. Basically, in this, you have to inhale the water vapor which allows the airway to open and this way the lung can drain mucus. In the case of a lung condition, the person can notice symptoms getting worse in dry air or cold air. The airway mucous membrane is likely to get drained out and then blood flow is restricted.

How is water vapor an essential method?

With the option of inhaling water vapor, you will be able to breathe easily. One of the studies has shown that steam can allow the patient with COPD to breathe easily. Although it might give you relief temporarily, it is still worth the try.

Method 2: Control your cough

You have to practice controlled coughing, especially if you have COPD then this exercise will make a lot of difference to your lungs. Here’s how you have to do it:

  • Sit on a chair, keep the shoulders relaxed and your feet should be on the floor.

  • Cover the stomach with both arms

  • Inhale through the nose

  • Exhale & lean forward then push the arms against the stomach

  • While you exhale cough 2 to 3 times and slightly open the mouth

  • Inhale through the nose

  • Rest and repeat the process

Method 3: Drain out the mucus from the lungs

Drainage is possible by trying different positions which helps the mucus to come out. The method will help your breathing and there are high chances that it will prevent lung infection. There are several positions like one on the back, side, and stomach. Let’s talk about when you lie on the back:

  • Lie down on the bed or floor

  • Keep a pillow under the hips so that the chest is lower than the hips

  • Slowly inhale from the nose and breathe out from the mouth. Bear in mind, the exhale should be 2 times long as the inhale

  • Do this for a few minutes

Method 4: Exercise properly

Regular exercise is great for your well-being. When you exercise the muscle has to work more which increases the breathing rate and this way the amount of oxygen the muscle gets is higher. Slowly increase the pace and then the body will get adjusted to doing the exercise. Patients with chronic lung infections should consult the doctor to understand what kind of exercise regime will suit them the best.

Method 5: Green tea consumption

Green tea is filled with antioxidants which help to lessen lung inflammation. One of the studies has shown that people who drink 2 cups of green tea in one day are less likely to have lung problems as compared to those who don’t.
